What's the ask?
Something Else has been running on a skeleton crew for several years and we need to expand our leadership circle to be sustainable.
Folks have their regular lives, some folks move on to other things, some folks want to take a year off, so we need more people to do all of the important pre-event work.
What kind of work?
We need people to take on key aspects of producing Something Else. Some of this work is computer work in the months before and after the event. Some of it is a few weeks before and after. Some – a few days. Some is on-site only. We are flexible, but we do ask that folks commit to what they will actually do.
A non-exhaustive list of things you could help with:
Ticketing Manager: manage the SecretParty ticket platform (May – Aug)
DPW Infra Lead: reserve generators, trucks. Determine other infrastructure needs and rent or buy stuff as needed (May – Aug)
Box Truck Lead: Drive box truck, pick up infra (a few days before & after the event)
Families Lead: Communications and logistics to support a family-inclusive event for grownups (May – Aug, some on-site)
Planners' Council Leadership team (April – Sep)
And many more roles!
What's in it for me?
Something Else makes no profit and has no paid staff. Our philosophy is that we're hanging out with our friends at a lake, we expect everyone to contribute something, and we're not trying to make a profit off of our friends. We're also trying not to work too hard and to keep our ticket prices low.
The most we offer to anyone is a free ticket, with some leads getting free housing (luxe tent or a room) or car camping passes, and the endless pleasure of our company.
Are there any pre-requisites?
Ideally you've been to Something Else before, have volunteered for Something Else before, or have led things at festivals before. However – if you are enthusiastic about helping out and eager to learn how to produce an event – we are happy to teach what we know.
